BULAWAN ONLINE LAUNCHED

At his lecture in UP Diliman last June 19, National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario was glad to launch a new website: bulawanonline.com. He serves as chief editor while Roberto T. AƱonuevo, Romulo P. Baquiran Jr., Michael M. Coroza, Vim Nadera and Fidel Rillo serve as co-editors. Phillip Kimpo Jr., Sophia Lucero, Eilene Narvaez and Ernanie Rafael are the staff members.

Bulawanonline.com gets its name from Bulawan, a refereed quarterly journal published by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts. The NCCA is also one of the major forces behind panitikan.com.ph.

The maiden issue features works and commentary by Nikka Osorio, Roberto T. AƱonuevo, Ronald A. Atilano, Romulo P. Baquiran, Jr., Michael M. Coroza and Virgilio S. Almario himself. Visit the new site here: http://bulawanonline.com/.

The lit journal only accepts works in Filipino — poems, short stories, critical essays, and translations. Several important links:

Submitted works will be reviewed by some of the most distinguished names in Philippine literature; accepted pieces will be accompanied by critiques from the editors.

The online journal’s elegant design is courtesy of — you guessed it — Ia. Now, if only she’d update her portfolio to include this latest masterpiece!

TagBux: Library Labeling WebApp

Sunday, March 30th, 2008
tagbux library labeling tool.jpg

Please support my friend Noel’s research study:

Good day!

I’m an undergraduate student from the UP School of Library and Information Studies who is presently working on a study entitled TagBux, a tool to determine the effectiveness and relevance of tags on a library’s collection. The library collection that was chosen for this study is the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Diliman Library. Through this study, library users will be able to discover the popular topics or the current trends in a library’s collection through the frequencies of tags.

Website: http://nicole.feria.name:8080/tagbux/feedback.jsp

What is TagBux ?

TagBux is a Web 2.0 application developed through Open Source technologies (Java EE and Wordpress) and patterned from social networking applications such as Shelfari. It lets you use tags to assign labels to books and was designed to test the accuracy of tagging as compared to the subject headings assigned to books. The library collection that was chosen for this study is the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Diliman Library. Through this study, library users will be able to discover the popular topics or genres in a library’s collection through the frequencies of tags.

New Site: Phillip.Kimpo.ph

Monday, December 10th, 2007

I have recently unveiled my new “summary page”, Phillip.Kimpo.ph. (Check again — there’s a dot between the names. It’s hosted under the Kimpo.ph family website, which was opened a few weeks ago.

The webpage won’t replace my main Corsarius.net site; instead, it gives a quick overview of what I have been doing lately, especially in the fields of literature, editing, problogging, and webmastering. As such, I have shortened the lengthy About blurb on the sidebar and placed a link to the summary page.

Many, many thanks to Ia for creating this simple yet sleek webpage.

Presenting the Kimpo.ph Family Website

Kimpo.ph family website screenshot

Now for some family-centric affair…

Last week I presented this portal to the members of the Kimpo Clan, and now I have the pleasure of unveiling Kimpo.ph to the public.

Quoting the site’s About blurb:

The online portal for all members of the Kimpo Clan. The years have witnessed the Kimpo families spread all over the Philippines, and as part of the Filipino diaspora, the whole world. May this website help the descendants of Juan Kimpo and Maria Lutgarda Escalona reconnect with their roots and with each other. On this site, you will find various accounts of the Clan’s history, an extensive family tree for the descendants of the seven children of Lolo Juan and Lola Ganday, info and pictures of all the Kimpo international reunions, webpages of various Kimpos, and more.

Two sections of the site (History, Family Tree) are still in progress. I know, I know — don’t release a website until it’s done through and through. But I figured the news and features section of the site count more right now in the weeks leading to the family’s 3rd international reunion in January 2008, in order to keep people abreast with what’s happening. The History and Family Tree sections will be finished next month (once the souvenir program/book rolls off the press).

Speaking of the reunion, the Kimpo.ph site comes with company — the Kimpo International Reunion 2008 blog. The Kimpo family is in the homestretch of preparing for the quadrennial reunion, and the blog will give a candid look as to how we do it. When the clan is merrymaking in Kalibo and Boracay in Aklan, I’ll try to dish out some liveblogging goodness. And when the festivities are finally over, this blog will be home to summaries, memoirs, and AARs.

Both sites wouldn’t have been possible if not for Ia’s magic (or should I say, stellar) touch. A simple “thanks” won’t cut it, hehe.

That said, please visit Kimpo.ph and the Kimpo International Reunion 2008 blog!

Free Blog Hosting, Exposure at Komiks.ph!

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Pinoy Komiks portal

Last week, we launched one of our more ambitious blogs / web projects to date — Komiks.ph, a website created to showcase everything related to Filipino-created comics.

The Komiks portal is envisioned to serve as three things:

  1. a blog featuring the Pinoy Komiks industry, from news and events to reviews and editorials, with a few foreign comic features thrown in;
  2. a directory of Pinoy comic creators, from artists to writers to animators; and
  3. a free blog host and subdomain service for comic creators, producers, and historians.

The first item is fully up and running, while the second’s still in the works. The last service is the one we are actively informing people about right now.

If you’re a Filipino comic creator (artist, inker, writer, etc.), an animator, or someone with a strong interest in chronicling Komiks industry news and events, we are offering you a free Komiks.ph blog, along with a matching subdomain (e.g. you.komiks.ph). Newbies and amateurs to the industry are highly encouraged! You can read our FAQ to learn more.

On the other hand, if you’ve already released a comic book/booklet/webcomic, bigtime or indie, we would be happy to feature your talents on Komiks.ph. Feel free to fill up our contact form and we’ll get back at you right away.

That said, we’d be eternally grateful to people who can help us spread the word, either through their blogs, forums, or mailing groups. (Many, many thanks to sir Gerry Alanguilan, who gave us a much-needed and much-treasured shot in the arm!)

One of our goals is to help inject more life and vigor (as well as draw more creators) into the Pinoy Komiks industry, in every little way we can. We’re only three people (yours truly, Ia Lucero, and Garro Garrovillo) running this project, so we’ll need every bit of help!

Presenting Our Free Article Directory!

Free article directory

Article Crux, our “free high-quality article directory” has been around for more than a month already, but I’ve been too busy with the site that I forgot to ‘formally launch’ it here on my blog!

Borrowing from the directory’s About page:

Article Crux is a free online article directory where writers can share their knowledge and publishers can obtain free web content. With ArticleCrux.com, authors can easily post their articles and ezine publishers or webmasters can effortlessly search through the collection of knowledge either through our search engine or by browsing through the many categories.

The directory’s elegant design is the work of Ia (read her design anecdotes on her portfolio). Together, we maintain the site, and are planning to open another one in the near future (this time niche-oriented).

Article Directories: A Primer

Article directories have always been popular with internet marketers, writers, and search engine optimizers. The basic reason: free links. Not just any ordinary free links, but free links from sites trusted by search engines (in this case, article directories). And you know what’s next when you’ve got good, free links — free traffic, TrustRank, and PageRank.

Curtains Fall on Philippine SEO Contest 2.0

Monday, February 26th, 2007

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted an update here (no thanks to my recent bout with asthma). I should really stock up on emergency blog posts!

Anyway, for those out of the loop, the second Philippine search engine optimization contest, nicknamed “Ituloy AngSulong” concluded last Friday, February 23. While we lost steam in the last month or so (almost nil link-building), our team (Ia, J Angelo) still managed to grab three minor prizes (with equally minor cash), namely:

Our performance is a far cry from our Isulong SEOPH experience, where we placed a strong fifth. Again, almost zero link-building in the last month or so (the time when most SEOs would’ve been playing their aces) killed us. The beauty of too much work! Hehe.

Two Years of Blogging = 1055 Posts

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

First off, let me greet the blogosphere a happy New Year! I hope you and your loved ones will have a prosperous and safe 2007.

Last December 29, I officially became a two-year old blogger (quite young, eh?). Due to a fit of madness, I was able to plough through a slew of blogs (my own, group, and professional) and count my entries since December 29, 2004. I arrived at 1055 blog posts, excluding this one.

Of course, blogging is much more than publishing posts. Blogging is about building friendships, bridging gaps across differing opinions (even if it sounds too idealistic), trying to find your own identity (from writing style to personal discipline and everything in between), and showing the world what you can offer, just to name a few.

New Model Aircraft Blog Takes Off

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

aircraft models crux headerA week after overhauling the design of this blog, I’m raising the curtains on my latest web project — Aircraft Models Crux, the place where I document my newfound addiction passion for miniature model aircraft.

As a child, I’ve always been intrigued by how airplanes work, how their sleek bodies slice through the winds, how they soar above the grudgery of the human mess below. Yep, the kid who’s afraid of heights is actually amazed by these cloud-conquerors.
