Hardcore Blogging About Programming

It’s quite refreshing to see computer science blog posts like this that discuss sorting algorithms. In a time when many blogs churn out rehash after rehash of news items (or worse are simply splogs), an original, lengthy, and “deep and dirty” analysis of the shell sort algorithm is a treat to the mind.

The blog entry, titled Shellsort Optimization Project was written by a good friend of mine and former UP DCS coursemate. (I’m not sure if he wants his name to be divulged, as his own blog is written under his nickname.) He’s an intelligent fellow, and it shows through his post.

Honestly, my long-on-CS-hiatus brain had trouble grasping some of the discussion’s concepts. It’s been almost a year since I’ve graduated from CS, though Prof. Quiwa’s CS 32 (where I learned many intricacies of sorting algorithms) was one of my best classes ever.

That said, read the shellsort post here. It’s just “Part 1″ of the whole thang; I’m hoping my friend will post the encore, soon!

Argggg! You beat me into mentioning THAT blog into one of my draft posts! It’s been sitting in my admin panel for at least two weeks now!

Sorry! :P You can still post it, as I’m pretty sure you’ll be discussing it with a different approach, not to mention length. You’re a more verbose blogger than I am, I think (discounting my lit blog, of course, hehe).

Yes, he is intelligent, and must be good with Math as well. I read the entry.

    BTW, OT: http://technology.inquirer.net/infotech/infotech/view_article.php?article_id=43201

I think you already know about this…

Hey Fleeb, long time no see nor hear! I hope you’re doing great. How’s work? :)

If I’m not mistaken, the INQ news was a bit late :P I blogged about it here.

So far, okay. For practical reasons, I currently opted to be trained, jumping technology from LAMP to everything MS. If it’s J2EE, I would have had no second thoughts. Oh well…

Oh, I see. That’s alright — you’re expanding your knowledge and viewpoints…something I’m not able to do currently ;) Btw, will you be taking graduate courses in UP DCS? You and my cousin might end up classmates, hehe. He’s thinking about it…ah, and he’s from Mapua, too!
