Three Moleskines Make for One Happy Man

moleskine notebooks corsarius01For months I’ve been savoring the thought of penning down new poems and fiction for my literary blog on a moleskine. Yesterday, the package I ordered from Moleskine Philippines finally arrived, much to my delight.

For the uninitiated:

Moleskine is the legendary notebook, used by European artists and thinkers for the past two centuries, from Van Gogh to Picasso, from Ernest Hemingway to Bruce Chatwin.

I ordered a large ruled moleskine (the one with the orange band in the pic) — I’ll need the lines to offset my illegible handwriting. The green one is soon-to-be Ia’s pocket plain moleskine. The red one in the middle is a free gift from Benedict “Longbeard” Bueno, a Diary 2006 moleskine (I think I can manage using one for 2007, hehe).

Benedict was helpful when answering my requests, and knowing that I’ll be probably writing for the rest of my life, I’ll be ordering more moleskines from him in the near and not-so-near future. It took quite a few weeks for me to get my moleskines because my large ruled moleskine order was then out of stock, but as soon as he informed me that it was already available and I made the payment (on Monday), the package was delivered swiftly (early yesterday).

Aside from the venerable moleskine, Benedict also offers a slew of gadgetry, one of which is the iPod Nano Red. Right now I’m short on funds, but one of my goals is to order one from him.

I won’t be opening my moleskines until tomorrow, when I get to give Ia her notebook. I’ll be dropping by UP Diliman’s Writers Night 2006 to get my copy of the Literary Apprentice Light, in which a poem of mine will be published.

Here are several pictures of my new moleskines:

Nice! Lovely moleskine notebooks, I already got my first 3 plain pocket journals and I’m planning to get the regular one this coming Christmas.

    Good writing! :D

Those are nice notebooks. Thick paper and nice cover. Trendy among the writing crowd. I have the slim, tan pocket-sized ones.

Ferdz, you’re welcome, I’m glad to be of help :)

    Jhay, thanks man. I’m envious — that’s a lot of moleskines! :P

Cai, slim, pocket notebooks do have their advantages, hehe. Next time, I want to try out a smaller moleskine.

  6. Garro Says:

nakaka-curious yan ah. do they have ‘em in steno, as in stenographer’s pad?

  7. Corsarius Says:

Raben, thanks, I already know that. Unfortunately there’s no Manila moleskine.

Garro, well, many people use their moleskines for sketching (like Mia, and from what she’s told me, Ia too). You can see the different moleskine styles here.

Bought a couple of those for my brother, Noel, when I went to the US. I am still thinking how I can use it — I use iCal and Google calendar (planner) and I rarely write on paper anymore (I just sign checks, receipts and vouchers hehe.. and dropping slips!).

  9. jangelo Says:

Longbeard also sells MacBooks cheap–almost US prices! So why don’t you grab one while you’re at it. :P

  10. Mia Says:

I’m glad you posted this — it made me remember that I hadn’t made the deposit for my order yet. Haha. I’ll be getting mine tomorrow. Can’t wait!

Post some of your Moleskine writings/sketches! Maybe we should start a Moleskine blog, haha.

  11. Corsarius Says:

Sir Rom, ang swerte naman ni Noel! :P That’s my prob, too, as most of my lit writings have been typed rather than literally written. However, I hope that owning a moleskine will encourage me to produce more literary works, and produce them the old-fashioned way — it’s actually a psychological thing for me.

J, yeah I know, and I’m enticed! That’s why I will be betting on the lottery soon ;)

  12. Corsarius Says:

Mia, that’d be cool — a moleskine blog! Maybe we can even arrange a Philippine moleskine users meetup :P

Nah, I don’t sketch. My fingers already have trouble properly holding a pen and writing legibly, much more drawing, hehe.

  13. m. bacarra Says:

oh hey. this might come in handy. i’ll probably buy one. now i can have my grimoire online and on paper. hehe :P and to think i got a moleskine image for my blog header too.

  14. Corsarius Says:

    M. Bacarra, that’d be great :P Post a moleskine entry on your blog once you get to buy one, too! Then we’ll make a moleskine Pinoys club, hehe.

Btw, I also noticed your blog’s new moleskine header. Coolness. ;)

  15. m. bacarra Says:

well, i’d place the entries in the blog while i haven’t bought one. i actually made one notebook before, but i am using it as dream diary.

about the header, i looked it up on the wordpress site. i thought that it would match the title of the site. :)

  17. Beta Testings * Stellify Says:

[...] Got a new moleskine. The classic plain one; I want it unruled and small and cute. I wish the cover were more flexible but Mia said the pages get crumpled with the softer one. I’ve got tons of papers from used papers to freebie notebooks lying around to this day and it really doesn’t matter where I scribble. I should start being a little more artsy-fartsy these days. [...]

  18. Corsarius Says:

    M. Bacarra, wow, dream diary! You’re lucky you still get to remember your dreams :P Actually, I’m near filling my cheap Best Buy notebook with my notes for my, uh, fantasy novel/saga. Mwehehe. The ntbk’s been around for I think 4 years already.

Kate, thanks for the tip. Looks great! :)

  19. New Model Aircraft Blog Takes Off » Crimson Crux Says:

[...] I’ve got two entities to thank for the new blog. First is Ia, who designed the site’s sexy header image. Second is my job (freelancing + company work-from-home position), which enabled me to finally afford little luxuries such as aircraft miniatures (not to mention moleskines). [...]

  20. m. bacarra Says:

well there are techniques to remember dreams, or at least a part of it. and since dreaming usually occurs during the last parts of sleeping, there’s a big possibility that before you wake up you’re dreaming. it’s not a talent or a skill, though. but i do remember most of them quite clearly. writing them down will help me have an idea about my subconscious… or that’s what they claim it to be.

  21. m. bacarra Says:

fantasy novel? do you have plans of publishing them?

  22. Corsarius Says:

    M. Bacarra, now that’s intriguing. Most of my dreams I think involve terror and anger…probably because of some pent-up frustration inside me :P

Well…work on my novels began as early as 1st year HS, though as I matured I constantly tweaked the plot, the names, the atlas, the maps, etc. Still, before I get to write more chapters, I plan to pen down a few more ’serious’ and ‘real-life’ short stories, as well as Third World literature. :) Ah, and not to mention poetry.

  23. m. bacarra Says:

dreaming of anger may be the only way to express your frustrations and negative feelings.

so that’s been around a long time! maybe you should finalize it already. who knows, this’ll probably be your biggest break! :D

  24. A Christmas Wishlist » Crimson Crux Says:

[...] A very productive year with my new moleskine [...]

  25. Corsarius Says:

    M. Bacarra, but I also have ‘alternative’ ways of expressing my frustrations and negative feelings, and I’m awake when I do them :P

Problem with me is, now I’ve decided to go the non-fantasy track first, hone my art there, then proceed to write the saga. 2 years ago I actually wrote the first few chapters, but stopped due to school and “lit-morale” issues, hehe. Back then I didn’t relish the thought of writing non-fantasy; now it’s the other way around ;)

  26. Of Lit Folios and E[lit]e Notebooks » Slip of the Pen Says:

[...] Another reason to be happy in the past days was the delivery of my moleskines, the ‘legendary’ notebook used by Hemingway, Picasso, and Van Gogh. Obviously these notebooks won’t do you any good if what you write or sketch in their pages is garbage. Still, to have a moleskine lying on my desk is a psychological lighthouse that both reminds urges me to write and comforts me that a haven lies nearby, waiting for the time I’m going to need it. 27. Moleskine Update » Crimson Crux Says:

[...] It’s been nearly three months since I’ve posted anything about my moleskine, so just in case you’re wondering what I’ve been doing with it lately: [...]

hey….i take my moleskine wherever i go and write down about anything that comes to mind. Life, Love and Loads. I take pictures with my Moleskine too :) Do visit.
