Gov’t Earmarks Php500M for UP ‘Silicon Valley’
From yesterday’s INQ7.net Infotech article:
The University of the Philippines campus in Diliman, Quezon City, is getting a 500 million pesos budget to set up the country’s version of “Silicon Valley,†a ranking House leader said Monday.
Finally, the Philippines’ premier state university gets what it deserves.
Villafuerte said the Diliman hub would serve as the national center for research and development in the natural and applied sciences, and mathematics.
Let’s see what role the UP Diliman Department of Computer Science shall play should this Diliman Silicon Valley lift off in the (hopefully near) future.

Dapat mas malapit ang CS sa Technopark at ASTI. That is if the Valley will be placed somewhere there. The new building looks a creephouse.
I really, really, really love that the Science/Engg complex is steadily growing in that (this, actually) area.

Yeah, and you’re near the action! Imagine — you’re going to be just a few steps away from “Silicon Valley”! (Oops, I’m giving away the location of your home :P) That is, if we see its potential realized in the near future.

Too little but not too late. Govt should put more money to R&D and ICT.

Peter, I agree. Half a billion pesos is not enough, though I hope that more funding will come UP’s way when the development of the “Silicon Valley” hits it stride.
Fellow Isko, right you are!
