Well, usually Chapters are created to promote ACM International, but since they’re organizations too, they look out for their own.

But where in heaven’s name did you get the idea that you do not know anything about computing, eh? You want to be a CompSci student more than someone else in here. And then some.

Join ACM! I really believe its digital library will help you A LOT in your thesis (which, btw, is very very astig; post some updates on your blog about it, ne? ;D).

Also, though most ACM members are dedicated to computing, I think it wouldn’t hurt to join if you’re a non-CS person. Especially if you’re very interested in the field. The papers in the digital lib range from the technical to the basic, so no prob. Also, free IT courses! (I think. Di ko pa nasusubukan e.)
You don’t have to be a member of a local chapter. It’s actually recommended to be an ACM Int’l member first before joining a local chapter (such as UP ACM). Examples are our faculty members, who were ACM members before the inception of UP ACM.

And yep, I’ll tag you when I see any paper authored by Gregory Cane!

How long does it take to be a member? I mean do I need to be a member of the local chapter for a number of days before I could join the international one? Or can I join as soon as I become a local member?

Would it be evil if I join even if I have zero (or maybe about 1%) computing knowledge. But I’m interested in computers tooo. Ahahah… *sigh*

I’ve always been tempted to join ACM because the bloggers (i.e. Jill Walker) I read when it comes to blogging theory are affiliated to it.

BUT I don’t know anything about computing!

Oh, but I’ll be doing a thesis on blogging and authorship (Foucault’s Author-function).

BTW, if you happen to come across texts written by Gregory Crane….
